ICIRA empowers communities and influences national and international policies by safeguarding Indigenous traditions, culture, and customary rights to land and natural resources. ICIRA’s programmes prioritize the preservation of identity, traditions, and land security while enhancing living conditions.
To enhance a successful conservation requires consideration of human activities and needs alongside those of other species.
To empower Indigenous practices enhances unique ecological knowledge and eco-spiritual perspectives rising sustainable living.
Conservation and environmental policies shall promote tradtional leadership, knowledge, and environmental care.

ICIRA encourages and actively seeks resources to sustain research-based projects that preserve Indigenous Peoples' ways of living and being for future generations. An essential component of this initiative is establishing a centre for documenting and disseminating research. This centre is vital as communities are increasingly losing traditional knowledge and practices that must be transferred from one generation to the next. All relevant documents and media should be preserved in accessible archives, ensuring concerned communities can easily access them. These materials must also be translated into languages familiar to Indigenous Peoples and local communities, enabling them to understand and engage with research about their lives, histories, and the factors impacting their livelihood systems.
ICIRA supports Indigenous Peoples to be not only recognized but fully realised in leading and defining development and wellness on their own terms like knowledge.
